Wendy’s expands the virtual Wendyverse with Sunrise City
Wendy’s Co. has expanded its Wendyverse virtual reality offerings on Meta’s Horizon Worlds with a breakfast area, the company announced Wednesday.
The Dublin, Ohio-based burger brand that launched its Wendyverse virtual launch in April, added Sunrise City to the gaming platform.
Wendy’s customers with Quest 2 can explore the three-dimensional world on the virtual reality platform, which includes a breakfast-themed obstacle course.
The Sunrise City expansion features a drill-through castle, bacon bridges and flying cookies. Participants can paraglide over a breakfast potato, joust on a tightrope and toss cookies.
The Wendyverse Virtual Reality Hub offers a portal to Sunrise City, or users can directly search for the experience in Horizon Worlds.
As part of the expansion, Wendy’s is offering a free breakfast sandwich through its smartphone app with purchase through June 30 or it can be claimed online at wendyverse.com.
Carl Loredo, Marketing Director of Wendy’s, wrote a recent Meta blog post with advice on using the metaverse.
“It can be difficult to balance brand goals and consumer interests,” Loredo said. “At Wendy’s, we strive to create branded entertainment, so every branded touchpoint first serves the consumer by enhancing the experience, rather than distracting or destroying them.
“In the metaverse, you can’t just stick a logo on something and call it a day,” Loredo wrote. “You need to give consumers an immersive opportunity to interact with the brand, so they want to come back for more.”
The Wendyverse is open to Meta Horizon Worlds users 18 and older in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The company offered these tips for accessing Sunrise City:
- Flip your left wrist and select the three-line icon from the personal menu, then select the pin (down) icon
- Select the magnifying glass icon (in the upper right corner)
- Use the virtual keyboard to search for “Wendyverse”
- Click on the image to travel to the central world and find portals to Sunrise City and the previously released Buck Biscuit Dome.
Wendy’s, founded in 1969, has approximately 7,000 restaurants worldwide.
