The Bridgewater Modern Grill will be Milwaukee’s new riverside restaurant

The new riverside restaurant with a large patio coming from the River 1 development in Milwaukee’s harbor district will be called The Bridgewater Modern Grill, Benson’s Restaurant Group announced Tuesday.

It’s a joint venture between Benson’s Restaurant Group, which operates AJ Bombers, Onesto, Smoke Shack and Blue Bat Kitchen, and Becher Development, the site’s developer led by Michels Corp. at South First and West Becher streets, according to a previous Journal Sentinel Report.

The Bridgewater is built under recently completed apartments, called Tribute, on the east side of the River 1 campus.

The restaurant “will provide an experience unique to the area” and have an “upscale and welcoming atmosphere,” Benson’s Restaurant Group CEO David Marcus said in Tuesday’s announcement.

In the kitchen, intentionally sourced ingredients will be prepared on an oak-fuelled Jade grill and finished with modern touches, according to the press release. The restaurant will also offer a “robust” wine list.

The interior of the space will accommodate more than 165 people and will offer a variety of seating options, including a dining area, a bar and cabins with a view of the galley. There will also be a private dining room for events that can accommodate 30 people.

The restaurant’s outdoor space overlooks the Kinnickinnic River and will feature a 245-foot-long riverside patio with plush seating, fire tables, cocktail service and a 1,300-square-foot lawn, according to the release. Press. The space will be heated for three-season use, will have an indoor/outdoor bar and will be able to accommodate 80 people.

There will be access to the public Riverwalk and 10 boat ramps for car service.

“With the combination of indoor and outdoor dining, there’s room for everyone, whether it’s celebrating an engagement or graduation, or just looking for a place to take a bite to eat. good food or a drink on the river,” Marcus said in the press release.

The restaurant group is working with RINKA Architecture on designing the space to make it “the coolest place on the river,” the press release says.

The Bridgewater plans to debut in early fall.

The building in which the restaurant will be located on the ground floor has even more retail space at street level, according to a previous report by the Journal Sentinel. Initial plans also called for a cafe, but no plans have been announced. Development plans also include a Marriott-branded hotel with around 100 rooms.
