Nominate your favorite 100% beef burger as the best burger in Iowa

Burger lovers still have time to nominate their favorites for the Iowa’s Best Burger contest. The annual contest held by the Beef Producers of Iowa is accepting entries until 5 p.m. Monday.

Two Ames restaurants won the honor of Best Burger in Iowa – Cafe Baudelaire in 2018 and Brick City Grill in 2014. Hickory Park made the Top 10 in 2010, the IowaStater listed in the Top 10 in 2018 and 2019.

“One of our rules is that previous winners can no longer win, but we make an exception for restaurants that change names/locations,” said Kylie Peterson, director of marketing for the Iowa Beef Council, at the Ames Tribune. “Because Brick City Grill has moved since winning, they could technically try again for the title of Best Burger in Iowa,”

“This has only happened one other time. The old Cider House in Fairfield won in 2015 and moved/renamed to Fishback & Stephensen Cider House,” Peterson added. changed hands with a new name, Big Schwilly’s Chicken Dilly’s (which is now closed) and they entered the Top 10 in 2019. Cider House’s new location entered the Top 10 last year.”

“The more nominations a restaurant receives, the more likely it is to be in the Top 10,” Peterson said in a press release. “It’s a close race to the finish line, so vote to help push your favorite to the top.”

To qualify for the contest, burgers must be “a patty of 100% real beef, served on a bun or bun and cooked to 160 degrees,” according to the statement.

Nominations will be compiled and a list of the top 10 restaurants will be announced on Friday, March 18. The top 10 restaurants will receive a certificate.

Contest judges will give secret tasting tours to all Top 10 finalists.

The Iowa Beef Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association will announce the 2022 Best Burger in Iowa on May 2, coinciding with the launch of May Beef Month in Iowa.
