Newcastle United photos emerge from key St James’s Park upgrade that Alan Shearer will love
The Gallowgate End bar – named after Newcastle United’s all-time top scorer Alan Shearer – opened in December 2004 before being renamed NINE Sports Bar & Lounge in 2013.
The rebranding was one of countless unpopular decisions made under Mike Ashley’s 14-year ownership.

But with the takeover of PIF, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media last October, talk of bringing back the Shearer’s Bar name has resurfaced. Like the removal of Sports Direct adverts, this is a simple but effective improvement to St James’s Park in the eyes of Newcastle fans.
The bar has been closed since March 7 and is set to reopen as Shearer’s on March 18. NINE signage has been removed and replaced with a revamped “Shearer’s” logo above the entrance.
Newcastle’s next home game is against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday April 8 (kick-off 8pm).
