New Smash Burger restaurant opens in Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids Founders any color you likeJason and Korin, have opened a new mom and pop takeout joint.

The new restaurant, black towel, is located at 966 Fulton Street East. The site is the former home of Rinaldi Pizza and Subs, which closed permanently last year.

The owners have spent the last year renovating and updating the space.

Black Napkin is open Wednesday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at 8 p.m. They are currently only open to walk-in customers, but will soon add online ordering.

What kind of food can you find at Black Napkin?

The owners say,

Food and soda are made in the same thoughtful way as their soft drinks: with real food and the highest quality ingredients. Welcome to the land of flavors, all of you!

Black Napkins smash burgers are made with a 3 oz. Michigan artisan beef patty served on a Nantucket sesame seed challah bun.

You can order a single, double or triple. Prices for burgers and sandwiches range from $9 to $18.

Burger options include the Classic Cheeseburger with American cheese and fixings, The Fussy Hussy with Swiss and Olive Mayo, and The College Dropout, which features Grand Cru cheese, crushed Vidalia onion, arugula, tomato jam with pepper and mayo with Provençal herbs.

Burgers and sandwiches can be vegetarian or vegan.

Black Napkin also serves buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches, such as the Hot Sweet and Sticky, which is brined, breaded, buttermilk-fried boneless chicken thigh, with turmeric slaw, Thai basil mayonnaise, and glaze with sweet and spicy pepper.

You will also find homemade fries and sodas like pistachio orange blossom and elderberry cream soda.

Popsicles are nut-free and made with local and/or sustainable organic ingredients; no additives, colors, corn syrups or preservatives. Their main flavors are vegan and gluten-free.

You’ll find unique flavors like Banana-Dragonfruit Sorbet, Orange-Carrot-Ginger, and Stay Puft, which is creamy chocolate swirled with toasted marshmallow, vanilla bean, and maple syrup, then tossed with sweet potato.

In addition to their new storefront at Black Napkin, you can also find Any Color You Like Pops at local restaurants Lucy’s and Linear, and at Grand Rapids Downtown Market.
