Cheba Hut will open a third location in New Mexico with Uptown Albuquerque Shop starting February 21

Fort Collins, Colorado (RestaurantNews.com) Cheba hut, the marijuana-inspired sandwich franchise will open its new downtown Albuquerque location at 6902 Menaul Blvd on Monday, February 21. The “toasted” sub-store offers over 30 signature sub-sandwiches, as well as a variety of Rice Krispy treats, salads and snacks in addition to a full-service bar. The cocktail menu will include Cheba Hut drinks such as Dirty Hippie, Hot Box and Cheba Rita, while beer will feature a mix of national and local favorites from Marble Brewery, Santa Fe Brewery and La Cumbre Beer, among others.

29-year-old local owner, Albuquerque native and owner of several Cheba Hut units, Isaac Montoya, is no stranger to the “grilled” sub-boutique concept. While attending the University of New Mexico, Montoya began working at a store near campus when he was 20 years old. Montoya immediately fell in love with Cheba Hut’s community spirit and quickly became a star, rising through the ranks as an employee. Then, after working his way up to become a managing director at the age of 22, the student of entrepreneurial studies was offered the opportunity to sign on as a partner. Now, Montoya is bringing the brand’s laid-back, welcoming vibe to Albuquerque’s Uptown neighborhood this February.

“The Uptown area is a very vibrant neighborhood and the perfect location for a Cheba Hut store,” Montoya said. “There’s nothing like Cheba in the area and I’m excited to continue bringing the brand vibes to a new neighborhood in my hometown.”

“We are thrilled to expand the brand’s presence in New Mexico with the opening of this store in downtown Albuquerque,” said Seth Larsen, director of relationships at Cheba Hut. “Isaac has been a star of the brand for some time and we are thrilled to see him grow with his new location.”

Since its inception in 1998, Cheba Hut has escaped the establishment and been ‘fried’. The brand broke the mold of mundane, casual concepts and made a name for itself by becoming the first marijuana-themed sandwich “joint” (pun intended). Cheba Hut is dedicated to combining local ingredients with a chill, eclectic environment where authentic cuisine is served by authentic people.

“I was hooked on Cheba Hut as soon as I started working there in college,” Montoya said. “From the unique atmosphere to the people and the food we serve, everything about them is so authentic. People really care about what they do and that’s what makes Cheba Hut so magnetic. We allow people to be themselves and the counter culture attracts people and fans – and of course the food is second to none and we have the best product there is!
