Blaze fire makes celebration tragic at OMR resto-bar: Cops record FIR

CHENNAI: After filing a complaint of burns and a resto-bar assault incident on OMR for more than a week, Kannagi Nagar Police filed an FIR following media reports.

The incident happened on July 14.

Celebrating her husband’s promotion at Orange Coconut Thai Resto Bar near OMR in Thoraipakkam turned into agony for a 27-year-old human resources executive, who initially suffered minor burns, as the bartender was mishandled flame shots.

As her husband argued over management’s negligence, a group drinking at the bar intervened and assaulted the husband.

After sitting on the complaint, showing reluctance to file an FIR, Kannagi Nagar Police within the boundaries of Tambaram Police Station booked the management of the resto-bar for their negligence.

The woman filed a complaint at Kannagi Nagar Police Station on July 15 for which a Community Service Register (CSR) was issued.

The woman’s husband, a technician, had taken his wife to the Thai bar-restaurant in Thoraipakkam. The woman works as a human resources manager at a large IT company “The bartender insisted that he pour the shot and in doing so he poured the drink on my wife, leaving minor burns on her face and neck. my wife’s neck,” the technician said. The bar managers, ignoring the injured woman, stood silent bystanders as a gang moved in and assaulted the husband. Police sources said someone in the group ran a restaurant on East Coast Road.
